The AFM newsstand was brought to life through a collaboration between A+A+A and design teams at Feeld. Feeld’s goal of making a magazine that celebrates its community of Members and brings people together in person is a great match for A+A+A’s studio ethos: to design thought provoking and playful spaces to help the world feel more connected. Beyond constructing an environment that captures the world of the inaugural AFM publication, the newsstand design seeks to create space for meaningful gathering, reading, and spontaneous interactions on the sidewalks of New York City.

As an homage to the tradition of New York City newsstands, the structure is populated with copies of AFM, postcards featuring art of the magazine, custom scratch-offs, condoms, matchbooks and many more delights. The design incorporates a range of custom and off the shelf elements tied together through a spectrum of pinks, with materials that invite passersby to touch, smell, and engage – squishy foam display trays, bungee cords and bouquets of flowers arranged on hot pink milk crates. Intentional details within a surprising and colorful structure invite curiosity, pause, and the making of new connections.

The newsstand visited three locations throughout the city over a week in September and has been designed for easy flat packing to be stored until its next urban emergence in support of the second issue of AFM.
