Assembly Online

Project Type: Workshop, Research

Assembly Online is a virtual community engagement system for creative workshops–providing an avenue for active community input into public facing projects. We have translated our in-person, low-tech workshops that focus on creative activities into a digital format.

Working with fellow designers, non-profits, museums, universities, community organizations and city officials our methodology brings the public together to co-create. Ultimately each workshop sparks a dialogue, bringing to light how communities live, work, play, and interact with the built environment, designed objects and one another.

In giving agency and voice to community stakeholders Assembly Online provides our partners with new ways to engage with audiences, and offers unique insights and understanding of community needs.

Workshop 3 : Virtual Garden

This workshop series is in collaboration with urban farmer Shannon Lai and next-generation landscape design company Studio Lily Kwong on their Freedom Gardens Initiative providing digital community engagement and localized outreach to partners in New York City.
The workshops provide educational content, resources, and community building to inspire everyday Americans to start gardens and learn more about food systems and food agency.

Workshop 2 : Virtual Zoo

The second workshop engaged with kids across several cities around the theme of creating a virtual zoo with an extended community. The aim of the workshop was to talk about animals, their habitats and activities while creating an avenue for kids to connect and co-create with new friends in a safe digital space. The workshop culminated with a printable coloring book created from all of the kid’s artworks for families to use at a later date.

Workshop 1 : Virtual Dinner

In an effort to reconnect with our communities during the COVID 19 pandemic, we hosted a virtual dinner party as a test for digital engagement practices and a way to ‘dine’ together with friends. The conversation centered around quarantine cooking and dream dinner guests as participants shared recipes and quarantine stories.
